Medium characters have the most balanced stats (though once again, this usually depends on the bike/kart you choose.) Big characters give more speed and more weight bonuses but less of everything else, as well as an increased resistance to getting bumped around. Because they are light they can be bumped around more often. Light characters give less speed and weight bonuses, but are better at everything else. More important to take into consideration is the weight class, divided up into Light, Medium or Heavy characters. Although these certainly do not make too much of a difference (with some characters it's really not even noticeable), it's fine to look them up in depth. When "2" begins to disappear in the 3-2-1 countdown at the start of a race hold down "2" to get a boost. When you are hit or run into something - do a wheelie straight after to quickly regain speed When you are hit with a shell / blown up etc and your kart is sent into the air, press 2 exactly as you are landing, and it'll give you a mini-boost to help you regain your momentum quicker.
